Deployed with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, as part of the United States maritime forces supporting U.S. and international contingency planning associated with the crisis in Libya.The 22nd MEU is comprised of the USS Bataan, USS Mesa Verde, and USS Whidbey Island warships. PFC Arnold serves on the Combat Cargo detail for the Whidbey Island, and as an M-16 rifleman in a fire team with the 2nd platoon, 2/2 Easy Company.

On April 2, 2010, Rifle Qualification Day, Recruit Arnold scored 235 in Table One/Firing Week at the Parris Island rifle range, earning the "Rifle Expert Badge." His score was highest in his platoon (PLT 3034), highest in his series, and tied for highest in M Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion.

"I, Alexander J. Arnold, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."
LCpl Arnold's first decoration. The NDSM is awarded to any member of the US military who serves honorably during a designated time period of which a "national emergency" has been declared. The "War on Terrorism" officially began September 11, 2001, and continues to the present day.
